HORSE SINGS FROM CLOUD

Pauline Oliveros was a composer, accordionist, and one of the founders of American electronic and experimental music. A multidimensional woman who stubbornly chose her own path: at the height of her career, she gave up a secure academic position in order to remain an independent creator, and lived openly as a lesbian at a time when doing so required real courage. The central idea she developed, “Deep Listening,” invited both performers and audiences to practice the art of listening—to music, to the environment, and to themselves.

As an ensemble exploring the space of experimental music and contemporary sound, we will present works by Oliveros alongside an original piece we have composed inspired by her. This is a rare opportunity to hear a selection of works that are not often performed.
