The concert is a tribute to the american composer and pianist Frederic Rzewski who died in June 2021 at the age of 83. In his work Rzewski combined social and political statements, minimalist aesthetic at times, improvisation and electronics. He was one of the founding members of the radical improvisation collective MEV (“musica-elletronica-viva”), founded in Italy in 1966 along with Alvic Curran and Richard Teitelbaum. Rzewski was the radical, leftist, revolutionary corner of the group, and while resisting the formalistic and aesthetic tendencies of the avant-garde of his times he searched for new musical and social ways for expressing real-life events and struggles for liberation.
